Installing The Disc Drive

The next two steps will be short and sweet. Next we want to install your optical drive or disc drive. The disc drive plays optical devices such as a CD a DVD or a Blu-Ray disc. The disc drive will install in one of the top 5.25” bays. One the front panel of the case you will have to remove one of the rectangular covers. On a mid ATX case there will be 4 or 5 of these covers. The covers are usually held on by plastic clips that can be unclipped from either inside the case or by removing the front panel of the case. To rem0ve the front panel you may have to unscrew a few screws but in most case the front panel is held in by more plastic clips. Refer to your manual for exact instructions. You may also refer to the image to the left.

Once you have the rectangular cover removed you can install the front panel and slide the disc drive into place. Match the holes of the disc drive to the mounting rack and screw it into place. Hook up the SATA connector from the disc drive to the motherboard and hook up a power connector from the power supply to the disc drive.
